Sesquicentennial Tribute to Black Soldiers of the Civil War

Black soldiers were the first Union troops to triumphantly enter Richmond, Va., the former capital of the Confederacy on Monday morning, April 13, 1865. As a commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War, a re-enactment of that day was held at the African American Civil War Memorial in Washington, D.C. on April 3.  It was sponsored by the C. Delores Tucker Legacy Branch of the Association of the Study of African American Life and History; the Bethune-DuBois Institute; and the Malcolm X Leadership Workshop.
